The Band was totally LOCKED IN for this show.
This concert recording is of a spectacularly high quality. When I found this show about 12-13 years ago I made copies for a bunch of people because it was so good (They all agreed) and still I come back to this show. I used to put on one CD: 1. Magnolia Mountain 2. Damn Sam (I Love A Woman that Rains) 3. Easy Plateau. 4. Peaceful Valley 5. Dear John 6. Cold Roses 7. Bird Song 8. Let it Ride That curated setlist - that hour of music is about as good as it gets regarding ensemble playing, lead and harmony vocals, interplay of guitars during jams, & the recording quality being so beautiful it feels as if you're in the room as the sound washes over you. Shout out to Neal Cassl who left us all way too soon. R.I.P. Neal.

Exquisite
One of the absolute best recorded live shows of this Millennium, hands down. This introduced me to Neal Casal, and that alone is worth every second.
The early Dead influence of Cold Roses brought me here too, roughly 12 years ago. This is fantastic, like others have said, it could be one of the best recordings on the LMA.

Bird Song
This show is great, and I love the version of Bird Song. I started listening to Ryan Adams in the fall of 2007. I went to see Phil Lesh and Friends and Ryan Adams came out as a guest during the 3rd set. I loved the way he sang Warf Rat. I have been a fan ever since.

I keep coming back.
I've been listening to this show since it was published. After hearing some of Ryan's songs off of Gold I thought "hm. pop rock... something about it, but nothing special". Then I came across the archive's huge collection of live shows. And. It. Changed. My. Life.
Yes, I'm the kind of person that obsesses about something that pleases me. I've listened to Aenima from Tool on repeat for months. This gig was a case of such an obsession... I've listened to this for well over 2 months when I first found it. That was 2006.
It's 2013 now. Can you be obsessed with something for that long ? This gig is just beautiful, evergreen and satisfying every time I listen to it. Yes, the quality of the recording plays a huge part in that - thanks to the dude who made it. No, make that a HUGE thanks. You and the Cardinals made the last 7 years so much better... and I'll keep coming back for more.

This has become Ryan's most talked about and heavily downloaded show. Its worthy of the praise. Please dont let this be the only Cardinal show you get. This show is a great example of the semi acoustic shows that would follow in 2007, but the Ryan Adams and his excellent band have many great shows on this very site that are worth grabbing. I make no secret in the fact I feel they were the best live act in the world from 2005 to 2009

Beautiful
Wow, what a great show and recording. The sound is superb. More importantly his performance is compelling. He plays and sings with such clarity. I knew of Ryan Adams from Whiskeytown but hadn't really explored his later music. I will be listening to this show for a long time. It does at times, evoke The Cowboy Junkies Trinity Sessions and at others, Chris Isaak, but he has a sound that is all his. My wife was listening tonight and will buying his CDs... I joined this site so I could write feedback for this show. Thanx Everybody!

first impressions
Unlike many of the folks who've posted here, I've never heard Ryan Adams before. Well, once on a Mountain Stage broadcast, but it didn't make a huge impression. I listened to this stream as I dl'd the tracks and can't quite put my finger on what makes this recording so rich, but it's definitely got the 'something special' going for it, like I want to hear this over and over on some long lonely cross-country roadtrip. Thanks to Patrick for nudging me toward the download, and thanks to Sebastian and anyone else involved in getting this recording circulated. It's the kind of show that drives people like me to go buy CDs.

Great show to kick back with a glass of wine... Alone.
What more can I add that has not already been said. I love this recording of RA&theC.
Interesting to note that some of the versions have been slowed down or down right changed to fit this 'sit-down' performance.
i.e.; To Be Young - New York, New York etc.
Both the Peddle Steel and Bass shines in this one!
My only complaint is that one guy who keeps hooping and hollering - Although that would be me so I shouldn't say anything.

Top Notch Performance
Ryan Adams was on top of his game this particular night. As a performer, one should always deliver to their best of their ability, but everyone has their ups and downs. Still, Adams is a little different. Don't get me wrong, for his age, I believe he is one of the best out there as of now. Yet he still seems too emotional, relying on his feelings over logic. His shows range from spectacular to "he seems way too drunk to perform". Being emotionally charged is good to an extent, but logic must come into play, and he needs to continue to find that balance between being motivated to captivate the audiance and make every night count, much like what the Grateful Dead tried to attempt. Remember Adams, sometimes a great show shouldn't revolve around the band, but rather the audience who partakes in the music. Sometimes the focus revolves around the band And the audiance. Best of luck to Ryan Adams and the Cardinals.

Cold Roses and Bird Song
I had heard in an Adams interview that many of the songs on the Cold Roses album were inspired by old Dead records. The first time I heard the title track I was taken-back at the similarities to Bird Song....now to hear these tracks "back to back" is incredible. Ryan is a music encylopedia with MANY influences, and obviously Garcia is one of them. I'm sure Jerry is smiling somewhere....

OUTSTANDING!!
I've been eating up Ryan and the Cardinals shows on LMA as fast as I can digest them and I've yet to come across another show with the outstanding laid back sound of this one. The band is at their best and the sound quality is exceptional. Especially nice pedal steel work. Definitive piece of work.

Good! Very Good! Great?
I didn't think that this gig was all that hot. i thought some of the songs are better suited solo & at times the vocals were not up to scratch.
However that said it is still a quality recording & worth having in any collection.
i did really enjoy how the bass was up more in the mix, unlike a lot of recording on here.
perhaps i was expecting more due to its popularity!?

I've had this show for a few months now and I still stop whatever I'm doing and STARE at the speakers. It is THAT good. The mix, the performances, the interplay, the songs, the setlist, the frickin' vocals and that killer slide all add up to one all time show for the ages. Don't make me wax poetic! Know it. This IS the sh*t!!
...as DJ Reggie would say.
Out of the many live recordings that there are of Ryan Adams, this must be one of the most amazing setlists ever. Wild fecking Flowers?! Hallelujah?! And they hardly ever play Chin Up Cheer Up any more. Plus the segues and extended jam versions of the setlist staples are just fantastic. I only managed to catch the London show on this tour, but this is the one I wish I had been at.
Awesome.

I'm a Deadhead and got turned on to Ryan through the Phil Lesh collaboration. These are the first notes I've heard of Ryan and what an introduction!
Really digging his music. Everything is great!

Again, not much more to add here. 5 stars, the sbd recording and show overall is unbelievable (sorry, I hate that "Freeway" song they do w/out Ryan; no offense to the band). The evolution of Ryan's music is amazing and I highly recommend getting this one. They're on a new level. I only saw the Paradiso show which was great but a bit rowdy. Wish I would have seen this one. The European tour was great this fall! Thanks for the post!

Wow! Ditto all previous sentiments!
I was on my 12th listen of the AUD, then downloaded this version. AWESOME! SBD allows you to hear all the details. The jams mesh beautifully and the playing is tasty. All three guitarists interplay effortlessly, complementing each other well. Easily the best performance I've heard by this band in terms of vocals as well. Tonality, harmonies, range, etc...
If you're new to Ryan and The Cardinals, this would be a great start. The only problem is the bar might be set too high for further exposure! Song selection, song arrangement, performance, recording all 5 star.
Thanks a million times to the Tapers and The Band for playing and archiving this music for us.

Possibly the best Cardinals show yet!
This band appears to be making musical leaps by the day. Each show sounds tighter than the last! Mr. Adams has yet to cease awing me. First he plays with Phil, next he starts segueing between songs, then he starts covering the Dead, now he is playing a 10 minute Magnolia Mountain and a 9 minute Easy Plateau! Things just keep getting better and better. Bye the way, the sound and performance are perfect.

one of the very best shows - ever!
Ryan is in sit down mode and the treatment of old and new songs by the full band is quite brilliant. Sound quality is great - truly a five star recording in all respects. Having now listened to this show quite a few times, I think this is probably the very best all round recording available for Ryan. You will be amazed at the quality of the recording, the playing and the singing. And of course the material is mostly the cream of a very large and impressive repertoire. Difficult to see how he could surpass this standard.
Absolutely first class!
I have listened to the audience version which promises to explain why the band did this one sitting down. But I cant figure out can you?
